OUR Inspiration

Genesis HOPE Inc. is the central platform whose purpose is to achieve food security in black and brown communities. Furthermore, Genesis was inspired by the founder, Dr. April Johnson's, large family, of which her maternal grandparents had fifteen children. Although they never went unfed, and her grandmother was active in her home vegetable garden, the focus was not specifically on health sustainability or nutritional value, leaving familial risks of heart disease, stroke, lupus, and cancer, among other illnesses. Along with her maternal grandmother and several maternal and paternal aunts and uncles, she was diagnosed with cancer. Dr. Johnson has been a breast cancer survivor for three years.
